Where the K2A is lithium only, the plain K2 covers four separate battery chemistries in one charger: LiFePO4, standard Li-ion, NiMH and NiCd, using sliding contacts that adjust to fit anything from a tiny AAA cell up to a large 26650, with no adapters or sleeves to swap between sizes. That range matters for a household that isn't only running flashlights on lithium cells, remote controls, clocks, and other everyday electronics still commonly use NiMH AA or AAA rechargeables, and the K2 charges both chemistries without needing two different chargers on the counter.
Charging current is a manual choice here rather than automatic, a push-and-hold selection between 0.5A and 1A, which is a deliberate design choice rather than a missing feature: some cells, particularly older or more delicate ones, benefit from the slower, gentler rate even when the charger is technically capable of the faster option, and having that as a manual choice gives more control over how hard a specific battery gets pushed.
Also doubles as
It runs in reverse as a power bank, using a charged cell already seated in the unit to top up a phone or small USB device directly. That's one of the more genuinely useful features a battery charger can have, since it turns something that would otherwise sit idle between charging sessions into a piece of emergency kit worth actually packing for a trip.
ABS plastic construction keeps the unit at 115mm in length, a size that fits easily in a drawer or a bag's front pocket. Because it handles four chemistries rather than one, the K2 is the more flexible pick for a household charging drawer with a genuine mix of battery types. If lithium cells are the only thing that needs charging and slightly faster automatic current selection matters more than chemistry range, the K2A trades that broader compatibility for lithium-specific speed and precision instead.
